Stella has more than 20 years' experience in leasing and licensing (commercial, retail and industrial) and has an excellent understanding of both landlord and tenant concerns in part due to her considerable in-house legal experience with both a national retailer and property developer prior to returning to private practice in 2008. Her expertise in commercial tenancy law is further solidified by her accreditation as a Law Institute of Victoria Accredited Specialist in Commercial Tenancy Law.

Stella has acted for both government and private sector landlords and tenants including a number of retailers in respect of their leases across Australia and for various landlords in respect of their leasing portfolios. She also specialises in lease disputes drawing upon her experience as a property litigator in the United Kingdom.

Experience

  • Acting for various landlords including the Goodman Group, Federation University, Garda Capital Limited and Lendlease on the preparation of agreements for lease, leases, licences and ancillary documents, and providing advice on leasing issues and disputes, lease enforcement and lease termination.
  • Acting for various tenants in relation to their leasing requirements for retail (including Country Road Group, Lawrence & Hanson and Black Star Pastry), industrial and head office premises (including Victoria Legal Aid, EPA Victoria and BASF Australia Ltd).
  • Leading the team acting for VicTrack on their leasing and licensing portfolio (comprising retail, industrial and office premises) including various major projects and associated advice.
  • Acting for Parks Victoria on the preparation of various types of land access and use agreements, in respect of a diverse range of premises (including restaurants, river berths, marinas, stadiums, sports grounds and community facilities) as well as advice in relation to leasing issues and expressions of interest processes.
  • Acting for the City of Whitehorse both in its capacity as landlord and tenant in relation to various premises including sporting facilities, telecommunication towers and community centres.
  • Acting for the Victorian WorkCover Authority (as tenant) in relation to the preparation and negotiation of an agreement to design, construct and lease over 13,500 sqm of new office premises as part of its head office relocation to Geelong.
  • Acting for the Department of Environment (the former Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning) in relation to the preparation and negotiation of a lease of land within the Point Nepean National Park, that included the site of a former quarantine station and army barracks, comprising more than 50 existing buildings.
  • Acting for the Australian Taxation Office in relation to the expression of interest processes and subsequent agreements to lease and leases for new office accommodation in Box Hill and Dandenong.
