Arti is a Special Counsel in Russell Kennedy’s Pro Bono Practice and has worked in the area of refugee and migration law for over 10 years. Arti has extensive experience working in refugee and migration law matters at all stages of the visa and visa cancellations process.

Arti has appeared at hundreds of interviews and hearings before the Department of Home Affairs, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and in the Federal Courts, including the High Court. She has built a consistent practice in judicial review and public interest litigation with a particular focus on the legal needs of people in immigration detention.

Experience

  • Acting for people seeking asylum and refugees before delegates of the Minister for Home Affairs, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and in the Federal Courts and High Court for judicial review matters

  • Acting for people subjected to visa cancellation and seeking judicial review in the Federal Courts, including First Nations applicants impacted by the High Court decision of Love;Thoms

  • Extensive work within Australia’s immigration detention centres for people in administrative detention including assisting people to seek compensation for treatment in offshore detention

  • Development of community legal education and training programs for family violence and refugee/migration issues

  • Law reform and advocacy on systemic refugee and migration law issues
